The Murmur Project
Taking an unconventional approach to city guides, the Murmur project is a "documentary oral history project" that recounts intimate insider scoop on various geographical locations. Identifiable by the little green ears posted up on electricity and telephone poles in designated neighborhoods, the signs provide a local telephone number which, upon dialing, narrates a historic tale, unique to the area. While some of the anecdotes call for the listener to stand in one spot, many engage with the physical space, encouraging the listener to go on a mini adventure around the area.
There are approximately 250 signs in 8 cities and 5 countries. Current cities include Toronto (where the project is based out of), Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, San Jose (California), Edinburgh, Dublin, Galway and Sao Paulo.
Keep your head up and eyes peeled for an ear near you.
