De la Renta takes his collection online

One of the top fashion houses has decided to raise the bar and get into the e-commerce business big time. Oscar de la Renta has recently launched their new website which offers fashionistas his entire collection. "The whole collection will be up for sale. No reason to just stick our toes in," said Alexander Bolen, the fashion house's CEO, and de la Renta's son-in-law. Now 76, the ever-dapper and tanned de la Renta has been waving away rumors of retirement for a while now, and reiterated that the global company is not for sale.
De la Renta doesn't use the computer for designing (he plays backgammon and bridge on it), but he can't deny the effect of the Internet on the industry.
"Our biggest customer in Russia couldn't come to my show in New York because she was pregnant," he said, "but a half hour after the show, she saw it on YouTube and ordered a million dollars' worth of merchandise."
