New Technology To Assess Soldiers Trauma
In a September article for Popular Science magazine, a "mood ring" (think back to those ones you had as a kid) was featured as a new way to gauge a soldier's proximity and exposure to bomb blasts.
Since the article went to press, the technology has advanced even further. A University of Pennsylvania professor has developed a color-changing crystal film, also highly sensitive to the shockwaves. The crystal film displays different color intensities based on the level of trauma. Ideally, the film will be worn as a patch on the soldier's uniform and, if hit, will give the doctor more information about severity of the situation.
Although there is still more research necessary to standardize the shifts in color with the amount of neurological damage, the crystal seems to be in the cards for the future.
